Another great idea from Japan, animal silhouette bookshelf dividers. These dividers are used to identify different categories of books that you have on your shelf. They look fun and artsy. The cost is about $15 each.

I think that with a little patience you could make your own. You could do this using cardboard, plastic, or other semi-flexible material. I don't think that I am going to try making my own though. Most of the newer books that I have read are borrowed from the local library.
